Acupuncture is a healing mechanism to balance the body. It has been used for thousands of years before traditional western medicine was available. Acupuncture points are located over blood vessels and nerves in the body. When a point is stimulated by an acupuncture needle, the body responds by sending healing cells towards that body system and area wherever those nerves are. With acupuncture, you are able to treat multiple different problems all at the same time, for example, knee pain and kidney disease can be addressed and treated all in the same session. It can relieve pain issues, as well as stimulate mobility in a dog with back and disc disease.

Some common conditions treated:

  • Knee pain
  • Back or disc pain
  • Multiple different types of Cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease and other stomach issues
  • Asthma
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Anxiety
  • Seizure disorders
  • General pain, inflammation and malaise
  • And more!

How does a treatment session work on your pet?

Most pets sit very well for the treatment and we encourage them with treats to aid in their cooperation. Acupuncture needles are solid, not hollow, and they have just a small amount of pressure going into the skin. This allows your pet to sit comfortably while the needles are in. This type of acupuncture is known as dry needling. We have the ability to do acupuncture with our laser for patients who don’t like to sit still and the treatment can be done within as little as 5 minutes. Most pets sit for an average of 15 minutes for one treatment session. Sometimes pets are a little tired for the first day or two after treatment, and usually feel better within 24 to 48 hours. There can be an immediate response in improvement to the treatment, but most cases take 2 to 3 treatments to see a difference. There are no side effects or risks with this procedure.

We offer additional specialized acupuncture treatments:

Aquapuncture – Injecting a vitamin or glucosamine directly into an acupuncture point to get a more localized and directed response.

Electro-acupuncture – We hook up an electric stimulating unit to the points to drive a current in between different needles to stimulate and activate the point.
